Wilmington Mass Shooting Sees Three People Killed at North Carolina House Party

At least three people have been killed and several others injured in a mass shooting in North Carolina.

Police raced to a home in 7th and Kidder Streets in Wilmington where they found three people had been killed and four more were injured in the shooting.

The four people who were wounded were taken to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC), where they continue to receive treatment for their injuries.

It was not clear whether any of the injured were in a critical condition when they were first taken to the hospital.

A spokesperson for the Wilmington Police Department told Newsweek the shooting happened around midnight.

An investigation into the shooting has since been launched. Police are also working to establish a motive behind the shooting.

Police have not released the identity of those who were killed as they are searching for their next of kin.

A photo taken close to where the shooting took place showed police had cordoned off a section of the street and at least two police cars stationed nearby.

In a statement provided to Newsweek, a WPD spokesperson said: "Wilmington police are investigating a shooting that took the lives of three people and wounded four others in the early hours of Saturday, April 3.

"Just after midnight, officers were dispatched to 718 Kidder St, in reference to shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered a gunfight had erupted inside the home during a house party and seven people were struck by gunfire. Three of the seven people are deceased. The remaining four victims are being treated at NHRMC."

It continued: "We are still working to notify family members of this tragic event and are, therefore, unable to release the names of the victims at this time. We will provide an update on the condition of the victims at NHRMC once that information becomes available.

"Our hearts go out to all affected by this senseless violence, and we ask that anyone with information surrounding this incident please come forward so that we may find justice."
