Window On Windows

PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TOUTING WORLD WIDE WEB-based learning for a while, but clicking through a series of Web pages isn't anyone's idea of fun. Ziff-Davis's LearnItOnline (www.learnitonline.com) shatters that paradigm with a smart, slick extension of its series of how-to computer books. Using proprietary streaming technology called LearnFlow, LearnItOnline transmits a tutorial to your desktop that pops up in a window outside your browser as a rich interactive simulation of the software you're learning to use. A year's subscription costs $29.95; subscribers can take as many courses as they want. The initial courses are on Office 95 and Windows 95; next up are Office 97, tips and tricks for Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer, with courses on HTML and JavaScript in the works.
