Despite being urged not to paint the exterior of her home, this woman persisted and has left the internet speechless with the results.

Having lived in her home in Savannah, Georgia, for two years, Mary Cole Wilson, 31, loved almost all of it—apart from the external bricks. She tried to like the look of the pink bricks, but she was desperate to paint over them and give the house a new design.

Many people cautioned Wilson against painting, but she told Newsweek that she thought "long and hard about it," and decided to trust her instinct. She searched for the perfect shade of white and after trying over 20 samples, she eventually found the one.

"The house was beautiful as it was, but the pink brick just wasn't my style. When we went to look at the house with our realtor, I knew I would paint it the minute we drove up," she said.

"Some people thought my house would crumble, others were worried the paint would peel off, and some just don't like painted brick. After lots of research and consulting with painting experts, we found a product that gave us complete confidence. The only thing I was nervous about was the shade of white."

Wilson refused to let other people's opinions deter her from the vision she had in mind, and now she couldn't be happier with her home's new look. When she finally saw the white exterior, she joked that she "heard angels sing" because she was so delighted.

Once it was complete, Wilson shared a clip of the finished result on TikTok (@marycolewilson). The video shows how her home looked previously, with a caption that read: "You're going to regret painting your house."

Then the video switches to reveal her newly white home, which has been such "a game changer." Social media users have been amazed by the transformation, and in just a few days, the clip has gained over 6 million views and more than 881,300 likes on TikTok.

Wilson's home after painting

...

Wilson has always loved houses that have been painted, and painting hers white created the ultimate coastal design aesthetic she wanted. She's so proud of the progress she's made inside and outside her home, and now she urges others to decorate their home however they feel is right.

She told Newsweek: "The main thing is, your home should be your happy place, whether that's painted or not. Now when I drive up, I'm so happy I painted it.

"I was so surprised that the video got the reaction that it did. Who knew people felt so strongly about painted brick? The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, but there are a few who think I should have left it unpainted."

The TikTok video has gained plenty of attention online, with many social media users lauding the house's unexpected transformation. Among the 7,700 comments on the post, one person responded: "Went from a house to a MANOR."

Another person wrote: "White paint makes every house look 100x better."

A third comment reads: "I love original brick but this is pretty and most importantly, it's your home."
