Woman Arrested After Allegedly Pointing Gun at Infant in Viral Photo

A photo that went viral on Reddit has reportedly led to the arrest of 60-year-old Rossie Dennis of Corpus Christi, Texas. The picture was taken from inside a car and shows the suspect pointing the gun at the vehicle's passengers—one of whom is alleged to have been a six-month-old baby. According to police, the altercation stemmed from a conflict over a parking space.

The now-viral post, shared last week in the "Texas" subreddit, described the image as a "parking dispute" outside an H-E-B supermarket in Corpus Christi. "A woman pulls and points a gun at a woman with her [six] month old baby in the car because she believed she parked in her parking spot," read the picture's caption. The post amassed over 44,000 upvotes and 1,800 comments before the thread was locked by moderators.

The Corpus Christi Police Department confirmed Dennis' arrest in a Tuesday Facebook post. They wrote that the "warrant stems from an incident that occurred at approximately 12:21 pm on November 24, 2021, where officers were dispatched...for a disturbance in progress."

"Upon arrival, officers were advised that a disturbance occurred in the parking lot over a parking space," confirmed the statement. "The offender pointed a handgun at the victims and made a threat to shoot them. Officers were able to identify the female from video captured by one of the victims. "

Though authorities noted that Dennis allegedly pointed her gun at "victims" in the car, they did not confirm whether these victims were the mother and infant described in the Reddit post.

Dennis was arrested on Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and her bail was set at $50,000.

According to Criminal Defense Lawyers, in Texas, aggravated assault includes instances where a "deadly weapon" is exhibited during "any assault crime, including threatening another with bodily injury." Aggravated assault is a second-degree felony in most instances, reported the online resource.

While it's unclear when Dennis will go to court, social media users were quick to provide their own judgments on the case.

"Oh she'll definitely see the inside of a courtroom for this. Texas law enforcement does not take brandishing like this lightly at all, especially with a young child present," commented u/moondogmk3.

"Looking at such posts [makes] me never want to visit the USA [Something that was a dream of mine since I was a child]. People ready to kill others over a...parking spot is crazy," wrote u/Anmo1Verma.

Newsweek reached out to the Reddit user who posted the photo for comment.
