Woman in Severe Pain During Pregnancy Diagnosed With Incurable Cancer

A woman was diagnosed with an incurable cancer just six weeks after giving birth to a baby girl. Andrea Kevill-Davies, 43, from Stockton, U.K., had been experiencing severe ongoing pain in her lower abdomen during the pregnancy, which doctors initially suspected was being caused by kidney stones, TeessideLive reported.

Medical staff took the decision to deliver the baby as quickly as possible in order to carry out tests to reveal the source of the pain.

Kevill-Davies' daughter, Daisy, was born on September 16 and shortly after, the new mother underwent a biopsy.

After an "agonizing" few weeks, the results of the procedure revealed the presence of tumors, friends of the 46 year-old wrote on a GoFundMe page that they set up to raise funds for the family. Doctors diagnosed her with stage 4 bladder cancer that had spread and was found to be incurable.

"Throughout a tough pregnancy Andrea kept going, she was strong and continued to put others before herself every singe day," the description on the GoFundMe page said.

Kevill-Davies, now a mother to four children, had to give up her job as a childminder so that she could undergo treatment immediately.

"We are wanting to take some stress away from the family at this incredibly hard time, and help to raise money to support them on this journey," the friends said on the GoFundMe page.

Kevill-Davies' sister-in-law Diane Spooner told TeessideLive: "Andrea Whatsapped me last Wednesday saying it wasn't good news and she was finding out more," Spooner said. "She messaged half an hour later saying she had incurable cancer and was starting chemotherapy immediately.

"It's just devastating, we only buried my father-in-law the week before and now this. She's had to pack in her job as a childminder whilst she has her treatment and I hope to care for her as much as I did when I was caring for my father-in-law."

Since the diagnosis, Kevill-Davies has received an outpouring of support from her local community. The GoFundMe page set up by her friends has raised more than £7,700 (around $10,400)—significantly more than the initial target of £1,000.

"Despite how heartbreaking it is, the support form the community has been breathtaking as they help raise some funds for Andrea and her family," Spooner said. "She's the loveliest person in the world, she's absolutely amazing and I hope this money can help her create some memories with her family."

Kevill-Davies said she had received numerous messages of support since her diagnosis.

"I'm absolutely blown away and overwhelmed by everyone's kind words, support and generosity," she told TeessideLive. "I am truly blessed to have a beautiful family around me and amazing friends."
