A video of a home renovation mishap has gone viral on TikTok, as viewers watched a diamond floor painting project go slightly off plan.
The clip shared by Alexandra Aller (@byalexaller), one half of the real estate and design duo The Reno Gals, shows a woman painting what is meant to be a diamond pattern on a floor using blue tape as a stencil. The video has racked up more than 50 million views since it was shared on June 21.
The overlaid text reads: "She has no idea that she is doing this diamond floor design wrong."

Instead of forming a continuous series of touching diamonds, the taped pattern leaves small gaps between each shape.
Aller, unfazed by the outcome, embraces the result. "The design was supposed to be diamonds that touch, but it ends up leaving a space that I think looks really nice and less rigid," she told Newsweek.
A caption added to the post confirms her acceptance of the mishap: "And you know what, I didn't fix it. I said that will do."
The viral video comes at a time when home renovation activity is on the rise. According to a 2024 survey by home design platform Houzz, renovation spending has surged 60 percent between 2020 and 2023. The survey, which polled more than 32,000 of the website's users, including over 17,000 homeowners, found that the median spend increased from $15,000 in 2020 to $24,000 in 2023.
Despite that surge in activity, many homeowners are moving away from professional help for their projects. The percentage of people hiring general contractors has declined from 44 percent in 2022 to 42 percent in 2023. At the same time, the number of those employing specialized service providers has slightly increased, from 46 percent to 47 percent, the survey found.
The reaction online to the viral clip has been mixed—confused for some, admiring for others. Comments range from baffled to inspired, with many users weighing in on what was or wasn't actually wrong.
TikTok user @texxby2.0 questioned the critique, writing: "uhhh what's wrong with space between? it's still diamond shape so what's the problem??" User @tyra_fahlcrantz admitted: "What even is a Diamond floor."
One commenter, Meese, tried to explain the source of the confusion, saying: "Yall I think the mistake was the tape job. When you pull the tape off, it won't be green diamonds white diamonds, it'll just be white diamonds on a green background."
Another, @buckybarnesgreatpast, simply said: "how r ppl [people] not seeing how it's wrong."
But not everyone was concerned. User @yafazifil wrote: "A perfect diamond floor gives checkers. This is better!"
