Woman Shares 'AGT' Performance Singing Song Written From Troll Comments in Viral TikTok

Singer Madilyn Bailey, who rose to fame earlier this year after making it to the semifinals on America's Got Talent, shared her full audition video from July 2021 on TikTok that has gone viral.

The song she performed was unique not only because she wrote it, but because it was written solely using hate comments she'd received from posting content online.

Bailey, or @madilynbailey on TikTok, posted the video of the audition on Tuesday and received more than 7.4 million views and 17,600 comments.

"With posting content on the internet, it inevitably comes with the trolls," Bailey said to the AGT judges during her audition. "So I thought I would take the hate comments from my YouTube videos and turn them into a song."

Even Simon Cowell, who is notorious for tearing down artists' ideas, said it was a great idea. Howard Stern said that Bailey was essentially taking something ugly and making it beautiful.

As Bailey started singing, various hate comments came across the screen.

"My mom thinks you just got killed by a cat," she sang. "They hauled this song away in a body bag..."

Some other lyrics that Bailey sang included "eat a burger," "I would feel bad for my neighbors if I did this to them," and even "am I the only one who really hates her?"

As Bailey sang off various hate comments, Cowell let out a large smile and she received a standing ovation from the audience.

Bailey told Newsweek she was inspired by Jimmy Kimmel's "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets" videos.

"I thought why don't I put my songwriting skills to the test and see if I can write a song using only hate comments, but make it sound like an actual pop song," she said.

In the comments, people praised Bailey for having the idea to turn the tables on the internet trolls.

"No better way to silence the haters than with success!" one user wrote.

"Great way to say F U to the haters, I love it," another commented.

Other users mentioned how significant it was that Bailey was able to get such a positive reaction out of Cowell since he is usually the toughest judge to impress.

"That reaction out of Simon is rare," one user wrote.

"I've never seen that look on Simon's face," another user commented.

Bailey was on AGT Season 16 and made it through to the semifinals where she was eliminated. Bailey now boasts more than 2.8 million followers on TikTok and has more than 2.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

In December, Bailey released a 10 track album entitled the internet made me do it (the comment songs). The album features all the songs she's made using hate comments from her YouTube videos, and the song she performed for her audition has more than 250,000 plays.

On her YouTube account, which has more than 8.9 million subscribers, Bailey shares various covers and has also released all of her songs written from hate comments before putting them out on other streaming platforms.

"With success comes hate and I've learned to not only accept it as an inevitable part of what I do but I've found a way to let it empower me," Bailey told Newsweek.
