A Tennessee woman allegedly sliced her brother's throat after he broke up a fight between his sisters, according to police.

Memphis police raced to the 20 block of Falls Road at about 12 a.m. on Saturday after they received reports of an assault.

When police arrived at the home they found a man had suffered a cut to his neck, according to CBS affiliate WREG.

The victim told officers he had been breaking up a fight between his sisters when Jarica Brown grabbed a pocket knife and sliced the front of his neck.

Memphis officers later found Brown at the back of the home and located a pocket knife inside of her shoe, the network reported.

Brown was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, according to WREG.

Newsweek has contacted the Memphis Police Department for comment.

According to an America's Health Rankings report for 2019, Tennessee exceeded the U.S. average for violent crime, where there were 595 cases per 100,000 residents in the state. The organization classifies violent crime as murder, rapes, robberies and aggravated assaults.

Legal website Nashville Legal Defense says aggravated assault can be a Class C or Class D felony, depending person's state of mind.

Those found guilty of aggravated assault in Tennessee can face two to 15 years in prison.

Newsweek has reported on numerous cases of aggravated assault across the U.S.

Earlier this year, a man from Sweetwater, in Tennessee, was charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly hit his wife with a loaf of bread and a "board" during a domestic dispute.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office spoke to Erica Grande, who said she and her husband Thomas had gotten into a heated argument that resulted in an assault.

According to the Advocate & Democrat, Thomas allegedly struck Erica "in the face with a loaf of bread" and then a board when she attempted to leave the home.

Random Attack

Earlier this month, a man was stabbed in the back while he showered at a California gym, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect followed the man into the Crunch Fitness gym on 12800 Valley View Avenue, in La Mirada, and entered the locker room behind him.

Once inside the suspect then followed the victim into the shower and stabbed him in the back with a six-inch blade.

Deputies added they believed the stabbing was a random attack and they had no description of the suspect as his face was covered at the time.
