Strangers Turn up at Woman's House After Boyfriend Publishes Revenge Porn Images on Swingers Site: 'He Put Me in Danger for His Own Enjoyment'

A woman had strangers showing up to her house after her boyfriend posted naked pictures of her on a website for swingers, police said.

Darren Rowe, 49, from Rowley Regis in the West Midlands, U.K., posted the images to porn and swinger websites in June 2017, West Midlands Police said.

His partner, who has not been named, became aware of the pictures after a friend asked her about them. She reported them to police fearing they had been posted by a friend she had fallen out with.

She later found out the images and a video were also being shared on a number of messaging platforms. Over the next few months, she had men turning up at her home saying they had chatted with her online and had been invited over, police said.

But police tracked down Rowe, her boyfriend at the time, after officers traced the online activity to a house where he was doing building work.

In a statement, the woman said she had gone "through hell" because of Rowe and urged any woman in a similar situation to report it to police.

"Darren put me through hell and affected my mental health, all while trying to convince me that he was here to help me," she said.

"I believe he put me in danger for his own enjoyment and I would encourage any other woman going through something like this to report it."

She added: "I loved this man unconditionally, and for the man you love to try and destroy you mentally is something that you don't ever get over.

"You learn to live with it daily unfortunately, but time is a good healer. If anyone is going through this, I beg you to speak out, you are not alone. Tell a friend or a family member. I know it's hard, but you can break free."

Rowe had initially denied posting the images, but police traced an email address linked to the images to a property where Rowe had been working at the time.

When officers arrested him, they found a number of phones and electronic devices with data that connected him to the naked images.

The builder was convicted after pleading guilty to two counts of disclosing private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress at Wolverhampton Crown Court last week.

Rowe avoided serving time behind bars. He was sentenced to a 12-month jail term, suspended for two years, after a two-year investigation by police.

He was given a two-year program requirement, including 25 days rehabilitation activity, and ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work. He was also given a restraining order for five years and a sexual harm prevention order for five years.

Police Constable Lee Newell, from the West Bromwich Criminal Investigation Department, said the case had been "long and complex."

"Our investigations revealed that the only person linked to an email address used to transmit the material was in fact Rowe," he said.

"His victim has suffered a distressing onslaught of online abuse. But following this conviction we now wish her well for the future."
