Woman Taken to Hospital After Being Attacked by Two Dogs at Beach

A woman was transported to hospital in Spain over the weekend after she was attacked by two dogs as she was enjoying a day at the beach with her husband.

The incident occurred on Sunday at Mourisca beach in the city of Pontevedra in northwestern Spain after two dogs were brought on the beach by a family at around 1:00 p.m. local time.

The woman and her husband started walking towards the sea at around 3:00 p.m., when one of the dogs allegedly attacked her before the second animal also joined in on the attack, according to local newspaper Diario de Pontevedra who spoke to the victim.

"He jumped at me and threw me to the ground that caused a terrible contusion on my left arm," the unnamed woman told the newspaper, before adding that the dog continued to attack her after she managed to throw it off her onto the sand.

The woman was then reportedly bitten by the second dog on one of her legs, before she managed to get the animals off her and her husband called an ambulance due to the heavy bleeding caused by the wounds.

The woman was taken by an ambulance to a local hospital where she had to receive several stitches because of the deep wounds caused by the dogs' teeth, as she added that "I have to do cures every day, at least until next Friday."

Her husband also called the police to the beach on Sunday, as they attempted to verify what happened during the attack.

Diario de Pontevedra reported that dogs are prohibited from entering the beach, with signs put up all around the area warning owners of the rule. The woman told the newspaper that the family with the dog claimed that they had been given permission to bring their pets onto the sand.

The victim said that the family told her that they were informed by others that they could walk their dogs on the beach, after asking at a nearby bar.

The woman said that she and her husband used to sunbathe at the nearby beach in Ancoradouro, but had to stop after they noticed an increase in the number of dogs being let to roam around the beach by their owners.

The victim said that the attack on Sunday highlighted the lack of responsibility some owners show towards their pets and the welfare of others, explaining that "a person who has dogs has to know the regulations."

Newsweek has contacted local police in Spain for comment.
