Wordle #407 Clues, Hints and Answer for Sunday, July 31 Word Puzzle

The last Wordle puzzle of the month could prove to be tricky for some players, but luckily Newsweek is on hand to help those who might want some help to steer them in the right direction.

Each day Wordle players have to guess a five-letter word and use a color-coded system to show how close they are to getting the right answer.

In the game, green tiles indicate the letter is correct and in the right place, a yellow tile tells the player the letter is right but in the wrong place while a gray tile means the letter is not in the answer at all.

The simple formula has taken Wordle from being an intimate online experience for 90 users to a globe-spanning hit registering millions of daily players.

Wordle's incredible rise can be seen in this Statista chart that tracks how many regular players take part in the daily game.

Wordle Use Stats

Josh Wardle created the game during the COVID pandemic as something for him and his partner to play.

The New York Times stepped in earlier this year and bought Wordle for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

Wardle said he never intended to make money off Wordle and that it was something he wanted his partner to enjoy.

Wardle said: "What's interesting is, people ask me all the time about the monetization stuff. Like, 'You could put ads on it, you could do premium.'

"And I don't know, maybe I'm an idiot.

"None of that really appeals to me. I think because I started with the intention of not doing it, it's been easy to say no. If I'd been trying to make a viral game I think it would be very different."
