'Wordle' #410 Answer: Today's Word of the Day Tips To Solve August 3 Puzzle

Today's Wordle is another tricky one, and a failure at the puzzle is only ever six guesses away.

Fortunately, Newsweek is at hand to provide tips and even the final answer if things get desperate.

The rules of Wordle are simple—players follow a color-coded system that they use to work out the five-letter word. They have six attempts to guess the word and crack the puzzle.

Green tiles show the player has chosen the correct letter and that it is in the right place. A yellow tile means the letter is right but in the wrong place while a gray tile indicates that the letter is not part of the word.

People have different ways of finding the word. Some may just go for the first five-letter word that pops into their head, while others are more strategic, thinking of specific words with lots of vowels in such as "audio" or "adieu," which are likely to be in the Wordle answer.

Wordle is liked by all sorts of people, including celebrities like U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, TV personality Jimmy Fallon and author Richard Osman.

'Wordle' Origins

The prototype of the game was made by Richard Wardle in 2013, as a present to his wife, who is an avid puzzle player. The puzzle was inspired by the color-matching game Mastermind.

After finishing the prototype around 2014, Wardle cast it aside and lost interest.

It was only during the COVID-19 pandemic that Wardle recalled the prototype and developed it. Wardle and his wife played the game, but it became popular with family and friends. The name "Wordle" emerged from a pun on his and his wife's surname.

Wardle eventually made the game public on October 2021 and it quickly went viral. Only two months later, it surged in popularity when the Welsh software engineer allowed players to copy their daily results as emoji squares.

It was bought for an undisclosed seven-figure sum by the New York Times Company in January 2022 and has only seen its popularity rise since.
