Today's 'Wordle' Answer #303—Tips and Hints to Solve Monday April 18 Puzzle

Online sensation Wordle has now had more than 300 words, and some may struggle to guess today's answer. Newsweek has put together some clues to help you get it right.

The word game, created by software engineer Josh Wardle, was launched to the public in October last year and acquired by The New York Times Company for an undisclosed seven-figure sum earlier this year.

In that time, it has gone from having just a few dozen regular users to a global phenomenon with more than 45 million people playing it every day. It has also inspired several similar online puzzle games, including the globe-trotting game Worldle and the math-based Nerdle.

But the rules of Wordle are simple: one five-letter word per day and six attempts to guess it.

A color-coded system tells players when they have correctly guessed a letter in the word. If the letter is in the right place, the tile turns green, if it is in the wrong place, it turns yellow and if the letter is not in the world, the tile goes gray.

While it may sound straightforward, obscure words can leave even the most avid players stumped—especially as they get closer to using up their six attempts to solve the puzzle and retain their Wordle winning streak.

"I liked the idea that everyone around the world was trying to solve the exact same word at the exact same time," Wardle told Newsweek earlier this year.

"It created a shared communal experience [If] there were multiple puzzles to solve and everyone was at a different stage, then there wouldn't be that kind of conversation, which I think is the most fulfilling part of Wordle."
