Following their loss against The Usos at Fastlane, Shane McMahon turned heel on his partner The Miz.
After weeks of teasing Miz - a long-time heel in the WWE - turning on Shane it was the General Manager of SmackDown Live who took his frustrations out on "The A-Lister." Shane's heel turn comes after Miz took the pin costing the team a chance at the tag titles. Miz was also the one who took the pin at the Elimination Chamber, where they lost their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against the Usos.
Shane consoled Miz after the loss, but as he started to walk towards the ramp, McMahon hit him from behind and laid on a flurry of punches. To add insult to injury, Shane went up to Miz's dad who was in the front row and grabbed him by the face.

The team of Shane and Miz began at the Crown Jewel show in Saudi Arabia. Miz was set to take on Dolph Ziggler in the final round of the Best in the World tournament. Miz injured himself getting out of the ring, and the match was about to be thrown out in favor of Ziggler. However, Shane told the referee to let him take Miz's place. It was allowed, and Shane defeated Ziggler.
Following that win, Miz wanted to team up with Shane as "The Best Tag Team in the World." For weeks, Miz tried to convince Shane to become a team saying that the two of them had childhoods where their dads didn't give them the love they wanted. Eventually Shane relented. Shane and Miz would win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships at Royal Rumble against The Bar.
The story of Miz and Shane was that the other teams in the SmackDown Tag Division questioned their bonafides, which included The Usos. The Usos became number on contenders and eventually became champs. Miz convinced Shane to give their team a rematch at Fastlane, which led to this moment.
With WrestleMania 35 in a month, this is likely going to set up Miz and Shane at WrestleMania 35 in New Jersey.
