Peter Navarro, the Director of the White House National Trade Council, scolded Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Sunday for comments he made during the G-7 summit this weekend.
"There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door," he said to Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace. "And that's what bad faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference."
He added, "That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did and that come right from Air Force One. And I'll tell you this: to my friends in Canada, that was one of the worst political miscalculations of a Canadian leader in modern Canadian history."
Navarro's comments are a response to a press conference Trudeau gave Saturday at the end of the G-7 summit where he criticized Trump's threats to end all trade with G-7 nations unless trade agreements were made more fair to the United States.
"Canadians...stood shoulder to shoulder with American soldiers in far off lands in conflicts from the First World War onward," Trudeau said. "It's kind of insulting." He added, "Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around."
Navarro's attack on Trudeau Sunday echoed President's Trump's tweets Saturday where he criticized the Canadian Prime Minister for addressing Trump once he had left the conference. "PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, 'US Tariffs were kind of insulting' and he 'will not be pushed around,'" he said. "Very dishonest and weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!"

US Senator John McCain responded to Trump's tweets with a message to the United State's global allies. "To our allies: bipartisan majorities of Americans remain pro-free trade, pro-globalization & supportive of alliances based on 70 years of shared values," he said. "Americans stand with you, even if our president doesn't."

Navarro ended his comments aimed at Trudeau by criticizing the media for not being critical enough of Canada. "As far as this retaliation goes the american press needs to do a much better job of what the Canadians are getting ready to do because it's nothing short of an attack on our political system."
