The New York Yankees are in a bit of a tough position this offseason. The rest of the American League East has gotten better in free agency and through the trade market, but the Yankees haven't made any impactful moves.
Star outfielder Cody Bellinger sat on the open market in free agency as of Thursday, and the Yankees are at risk of losing him if they don't pay the cost he's asking.
Still, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller listed the Yankees as the favorites in the Bellinger sweepstakes this offseason.

"If we didn't have Jon Heyman's report for The New York Post on New Year's Day that the Yankees made an official offer to Bellinger, as well as Joel Sherman's subsequent report for the same outlet on (Sunday) that the Bronx Bombers made a second, increased offer," Miller wrote. "Granted, had either been a lucrative enough offer, we wouldn't still be speculating on where Bellinger is headed.
"But it does seem like the Yankees are presently the team most desperate to get a deal done with Bellinger -- after spending the past two months doing basically nothing aside from watching the Blue Jays, Red Sox and Orioles get stronger."
The Yankees need to do everything in their power to re-sign Bellinger, especially if Kyle Tucker ends up signing elsewhere.
Tucker could fit the roster, but he doesn't fit the payroll as nicely as Bellinger does. Bellinger is also a better defender than the aforementioned Tucker.
The Yankees can't afford to watch the rest of the division improve while they sit still. They need to make a move, and signing Bellinger is the perfect next step in the Bronx.
