YouTuber Spends $70,000 on the 'World's Largest P55'

YouTuber Zachary Hsieh, also known as ZHC, has spent $70,000 customizing "the world's largest" PlayStation 5, which stands at 10 feet tall and weighs 500 pounds.

The giant console—and matching DualSense controller—were fully functional, as demonstrated by Hsieh, who used them to play Minecraft.

Hsieh revealed the huge console in a YouTube video posted on February 1, in which he and five artists spent 100 hours customizing what he described as the "world's largest PS5." The "regular" Sony console is about 15 inches tall and weighs roughly 10 pounds.

The YouTuber set up a contest in which he went up against the five artists to paint a side of the custom console, with Hsieh designing a space-themed artwork and the group of artists opting for an underwater scene. The video has been watched 12.9 million times on YouTube.

The idea was that the winning team would receive multiple PS5s—and considering how difficult it is to buy the consoles right now, this was a prize worth fighting for. Hsieh revealed that he had to pay $1,000 for one of the consoles he planned to give away.

After 100 hours of painting, with breaks for challenges and dares, each side of the customized PS5 was inspected by a panel of three judges. Hsieh was declared the winner, but decided to give the team of artists a PS5 console each anyway. He added that he would donate the extra consoles to children in need.

In a comment under his YouTube video, Hsieh wrote that if the clip received 1 million likes he would give away another 100 PS5 consoles to his subscribers and people in need. At the time of writing, the video has 438,000 likes.

Entering giveaways and competitions is one of the only ways gamers have been able to get their hands on the console since it was released last November.

PlayStation fans have had to deal with limited stock and compete with bots and scalpers to buy the coveted machines.

The giant PS5 is not Hsieh's first foray into creating custom, larger-than-life tech. In November, the YouTuber spent $50,000 customizing a giant iPhone 12, in a video that has been watched 15 million times.

Hsieh has also customized gadgets such as Nintendo Switch consoles and iPads—as well as designer clothes and even Tesla and Lamborghini cars. In his most-watched YouTube video, with 84 million views, he gives the TikTok star Charli D'Amelio 20 customized iPhones. His second most-viewed clip features D'Amelio receiving 10 custom iPad Pros and MacBooks.
