Zack Snyder's Batman-Catwoman Tweet Sparks Wave of Jokes, Memes

Zack Snyder has proven why he is a favorite among fans of the DC Universe yet again.

The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director weighed in on Harley Quinn creator Justin Halpern's revelation that an oral sex scene between Batman and Catwoman was cut from the show because it didn't fit the hero's image.

Halpern previously told Variety of the greater freedom that comes with characters that are seen as villainous, such as Harley Quinn.

"A perfect example of that is in this third season of 'Harley' [when] we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman," he explained. "And DC was like, 'You can't do that. You absolutely cannot do that.' They're like, 'Heroes don't do that.'"

Now, Snyder has delivered his verdict on the matter by sharing visual artwork of Batman and Catwoman partaking in the axed sex scene in a Twitter post—which is too not-safe-for-work to be shared here.

In true Snyder fashion, he simply captioned the image: "Canon."

The term refers to storylines that were at one time an accepted part of a particular character's arc or universe.

The producer's tweet sent fans of the DC Universe into a frenzy online as they couldn't resist sharing a wave of memes in response.

Twitter user @JJ_Flores_H hailed shared a meme of a person bowing to Snyder. The caption read: "I believe in Zack Snyder world domination." The user then reaffirmed their thoughts, hailing Snyder a "KIIIING!!!"

@NaveenShankarSP posted a meme of the Joker looking creepily through a hole in the wall, with the caption: "Now there's a batman." The tweet was liked thousands of times.

Whilst user @ARKHAMSKlNG shared a mashup of the director's best moments with Nicki Minaj's "Hard White" playing.

Meanwhile, @CSaraiF shared a photograph of former Batman star Ben Affleck looking at a phone and grimacing.

"Zack snyder posting very graphic and well painted art of batman eating catwoman out just sold me on his cut of the justice league," @luulubuu tweeted.

@AubryAndrews clarified: "This is part of canon now, right? The whole Zack Snyder says so part. Batman goes down on Catwoman. #SnyderVerse."

Snyder is not the first person to send fans wild over the debate.

Val Kilmer, who played the caped crusader in the 1995 film Batman Forever, also took to Twitter to share a GIF from the film.

In the scene, Nicole Kidman, who played the hero's love interest in the movie, says: "We could give it a try. I'll bring the wine..."

He then captioned the post: "Does he or doesn't he...?"

The tweet was met with approval from the actor's followers with the majority of users answering "yes" to his question.

DC's animated series Harley Quinn first debuted in 2019 and has since become known among fans for its ability to push boundaries. The show regularly features adult humor and sharp language.

The series' reel of celebrity voices include Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco as the mouthpiece of Harley Quinn and Veep star Diedrich Bader as the voice of Batman.
