Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic has the potential to be "phenomenal" for the English Premier League.

New United signing Ibrahimovic, 34, struck a long-range goal on his Premier League debut, as United defeated Bournemouth 3-1 at Vitality Stadium.

And Mourinho believes the former Paris Saint-Germain striker will make the league grateful for his talents.

"I think he can be phenomenal for the team and the Premier League," Mourinho told the BBC. "He's the profile of a player the Premier League has to be pleased to have."

Ibrahimovic now has two goals in two United games, following his winner in the FA Community Shield against Leicester City.

Mourinho declared himself "pleased" after his United side weathered a spirited start from Bournemouth to run out a convincing winner.

The Portuguese was forced to start without his major summer signing and world-record transfer Paul Pogba, who was suspended for one game with booking carried over from his time with Juventus in Italy.

Pogba will be available for United's next game, which comes against Southampton at Old Trafford on Friday evening.
