12-Year-Old Shot While Allegedly Attempting to Rob 17-Year-Old

A 12-year-old boy from California was shot after allegedly attempting to rob a 17-year-old at gunpoint. Once the suspect was released from the hospital, he was arrested and brought to the juvenile detention center, police said.

The alleged robbery gone wrong occurred on November 26 outside of a business in Cutler, California. When Tulare County Sheriff's Office detectives arrived at the scene they found the 12-year-old suspect suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to police, the 12-year-old boy walked up to a car and allegedly attempted to rob the 17-year-old sitting in the driver seat. When the suspect pulled out a gun, the 17-year-old attempted to back out of the parking spot to leave the area.

As he began pulling out, the 12-year-old allegedly began shooting at the victim's car.

"The victim then grabbed his own gun and fired one shot through his windshield, hitting the 12-year-old," TCSO said in a statement. "The victim then immediately left the area to avoid further confrontation."

According to police, the 12-year-old was treated at a local hospital for the gunshot wound and was released on December 16.

The suspect was immediately arrested on a warrant and brought to the Tulare County Juvenile Detentions Facility. He is being held at the facility without bond. The names of the victim and suspect have not been released.
