Pair of 80-Year-Olds Use Amazon Alexa for the First Time in Hilarious Video

A now-viral video that showed two 80-year-old men using an Amazon Alexa smart speaker for the first time has left the internet in stitches.

The video was posted to TikTok over the weekend by U.S. Navy veteran Kenny Jary (@patriotickenny). Already, the post has amassed more than 16 million views and over 2.8 million likes. And while the video is comical, it also proves that seniors are far more interested in technology than people may think.

The video opened with Jary trying to get Alexa's attention.

"Alexa?" he asked warily. But Alexa doesn't respond, so he says, "No answer," and then calls to the device again.

"Alexa, are you there?" he asked.

Eventually, the device lets Jary know it's listening, and Jary excitedly moves the conversation along by asking Alexa about pizza.

"Alexa? How about, uh, sausage and pepperoni pizzas—are they good for ya or not?" Jary asked. Meanwhile, another man enters the frame and smiles to himself as he waits for Alexa's answer.

Again, Alexa doesn't respond. So, Jary looks to his friend and says, "Oh, she don't want to hear it."

After a few more moments, Alexa finally chimes in, but it doesn't answer Jary's question. Instead, the device tells Jary that it's added sausage and underwear to his shopping list.

"No, I don't want a shopping list!" Jary exclaimed, prompting Alexa to clear the list.

Jary frequently posts videos to his TikTok account with the help of his young neighbor, Amanda Kline, according to Today. As it stands, Jary has amassed 1.7 million followers, but he isn't the only senior who's found success on the video-sharing app.

An 83-year-old cook from Dallas, Texas, named Steve Austin, otherwise known as "Old Man Steve," has also earned a whopping 1.7 million TikTok followers.

"I think that it's a great thing for seniors to be able to be on the internet and communicate," Austin told Newsweek. "I don't think it's just for the young people."

According to the Pew Research Center, 75 percent of U.S. adults over the age of 65 use the internet, and roughly four-in-10 seniors own smartphones. Additionally, roughly 34 percent of seniors report using social media.

"Once online, most seniors make the internet a standard part of their daily routine," said the Pew Research Center. "Roughly three-quarters of older internet users go online at least daily, including 17 percent who say they go online about once a day, 51 percent who indicate they do so several times a day and eight percent who say they use the internet almost constantly."

As previously stated, Jary's viewers thought the video was hilarious and demanded that it be turned into a regular series.

"MORE VETERAN VS. ALEXA PLEASE!!" exclaimed ChapineroFilms.

"Literally on the floorrrrrr!!" said namada. "This is the best TikTok I've seen in days."

TikTok user game player added: "This needs to be a series he's [too] great! "
