83-year-old Grandma Fulfills 'Bucket List' Wish by Getting Tattoo

A grandmother who went viral after telling her granddaughter she wanted to get a tattoo has shared the results of her long-awaited inking online.

Judy Dede, 83, became an overnight social media star after Brandy O'Reilly shared a video to TikTok of her grandma making her unique request.

"I'm gonna blow your mind," Dede said on the viral clip. "I wanna get a tattoo."

At the time of writing, the video has been viewed more than 3.6 million times with Judy earning the nickname of "Tat Granny" for her troubles. The clip can be watched here.

O'Reilly told WANE she recorded the clip because she "couldn't even believe" what her grandmother was saying.

Dede told the news outlet she got the idea after reading about an 80-year-old woman who marked her birthday by getting a tattoo.

On Saturday, she headed to the Black Sheep Tattoo and Art Gallery in Fort Wayne to have her inking done - but she wasn't alone.

Inspired by their grandma's example, Judy's daughter, granddaughter, granddaughter-in-law, two grandsons and both of their wives went under the needle to get matching tattoos together.

The design, which combines a music note with a fishing hook, love heart and cancer ribbon, is one O'Reilly has said is "very meaningful" to her family.

"My father just passed away in July, so there's a lot of meaning to the tattoo," she explained to WANE. "Our family has just always been very musically inclined. I have a son who plays the drums. I have a son who plays the guitar and the bass and then my oldest was in show choir all through high school."

O'Reilly has since posted a video of her grandmother in the tattoo artist's chair getting inked on her right forearm and appearing nonplussed at the pain involved.

"Granny is sitting like champ, I am loving this," O'Reilly can be heard saying on the clip, which can be viewed here.

"I just appreciate all the support, it's amazing" Dede says on the inspirational video which was posted online with the hashtag #Bucketlist.

"I am so proud of you for doing what you want," SassyKristen1515 wrote alongside the clip. Lovehealnourish, meanwhile, declared: "Granny is a badass" while Tattedmama35 commented: "you rock granny." JustMandy added: "So happy you got to share this beautiful experience with one another."

Dede received messages of support from fans as far off as the U.K. and Australia during her tattooing with the finished results shared in a follow-up TikTok post which can be seen here.

Kimmachanta was among those to praise the finished results, writing: "I love this. The memories will be forever."

Newsweek has contacted O'Reilly for comment.

Dede's heartwarming story comes just days after a blind 108-year-old went viral after a video was posted online showing the moment she got to hold her great-great-granddaughter for the first time.

Another grandmother captured the imagination of social media after a clip showcasing the brilliant Toy Story-inspired Halloween costume she created for her granddaughter was posted to TikTok.
