'All American': Will the Show Return for Season 5 Amid Big CW Cancelations?

All American Season 4 is coming to its conclusion on Monday, May 23, and fans will no doubt be wondering if it'll be back for a fifth season.

The show follows rising American football player Spencer James (Daniel Ezra), with the star wide receiver trying to rise up in the ranks in his college team in Season 4.

Earlier this month, the CW announced its intention to cancel a number of its shows including Magnum P.I. and Legacies, so fans of All American may be wondering if the show was also cut from the network. Here is everything you need to know.

Will the Show Return for Season 5?

All American viewers will be happy to know that the show was one of the first to receive an early renewal from the CW.

On March 22, the network confirmed that it would be renewing seven shows: All American, The Flash, Walker, Superman & Lois, Riverdale, Kung Fu and Nancy Drew. Though it has since been announced that Riverdale's renewal will be short-lived as it's ending with its seventh season.

At the time, Mark Pedowitz, chairman and CEO of the CW Network, said in a statement, per Deadline: "As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond.

"These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multiplatform footprint."

Following the announcement, actor Ezra took to Twitter to thank the show's fans for their support by saying: "Season 5 wow this would not be possible without our amazing fans. Are you excited? How you feeling?"

All American's spin-off show All American: Homecoming has also been renewed for a second season, which was announced on May 12 by TVLine.

While it's good news for All American, there are plenty of show that were not as lucky with the CW cancellations.

Legacies, Dynasty, Charmed, 4400, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, In the Dark, Magnum P.I. and Rosewell, New Mexico have all been canceled by the network after their respective seasons.

Pedowitz spoke to TVLine and other reporters about the decision on May 19, sharing: "I realize the pattern is different from what we've done in years past, so I can see why this came as a bit of shock to you and to the fans.

"Look, none of these were easy decisions. We had long conversations with our studios and parent companies, and everyone recognized that this was a time of transition for the CW.

"So unfortunately, some difficult financial and strategic decisions needed to be made at every level. Despite some of the rumors out there, I want to be very clear: Content was never a factor in deciding not to move forward with a show."

He added that the CW is "very proud" of all of its shows and that he is keen to ensure their creative teams always get to give their stories a "proper ending."

All American Season 4 ends on Monday, May 23, at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
