'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' - Dangerous Bugs List & How to Get Medicine Recipe

If you've ever been to a private island - or seen movies about being marooned on one - you know it's not as safe as it may seem at first. The world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is no exception.

While there are harmless flowers, trees and butterflies scattered throughout, there are also dangers on your private island. These environmental hazards don't spring up too often but, if you're not prepared, they may catch you off guard.

Here's a list of insects that can harm your character and instructions for how to heal yourself with medicine.

HOW TO OBTAIN MEDICINE RECIPE

The first thing you should do to avoid any harm is learn the DIY Recipe for medicine. This medicine will heal you of bites and stings before they get worse. Unfortunately, to get this recipe you must come into contact with an insect that can sting you.

There are certain insects in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that can sting you, but the most common and least "deadly" are the wasps. Wasps appear from their nest after you've shaken or hacked at a tree on your island.

Players will notice the Wasp nest fall to the ground and then the wasps will come out to attack you.

To obtain the recipe you'll need to have the wasps sting you, which will cause your face to puff up. When this happens, talk to the residents of your island. They'll comment on your appearance and offer advice about avoiding insects that can hurt you.

The trick is to continue talking to them until they tell you about medicine and offer the DIY Recipe to you. Some reports say it's the female resident on your island that will give it to you after you speak to them a few times. Our experience is with the female resident after talking to them twice.

Once you receive the DIY Recipe, read it, and you'll be able to make your own medicine using three Clumps of Weeds and a Wasp's Nest.

AVOIDING INSECTS THAT CAN 'KILL' YOU

Once you've been stung by wasps, you'll have to either fix it up with the medicine or wait a day. However, if you get stung again before it's healed you'll "die."

Death in Animal Crossing: New Horizons just forces you back to your home, which, if you're traveling on a deserted island or your friend's island, could take away your scavenging and progress. In those cases it pays to be careful.

If you're looking to catch wasps or farm their nests, before shaking a tree have your net out as you won't know when they'll pop up. When they appear out of the nests, take a swipe to catch them.

You can also run to the nearest home to try and escape them.

There are other insects like Tarantulas that can bite you once and send you back to your house. These insects come out at night, so you'll want to be wary about exploring during those times.

If you want to keep exploring, just have your net handy. Tarantulas will run after you, though, so be careful.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
