Manchester United has offered Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann a contract, according to reports, as Jose Mourinho closes in on a major summer signing.

Mourinho's marquee transfer from his first summer in charge of United was Paul Pogba for a world record fee, and according to The Sun, United will offer Griezmann, 25, the same contract terms given to Pogba of £220,000 ($272,300) a week.

Pogba and Griezmann were teammates in the France side that reached the final of UEFA Euro 2016, a competition in which Griezmann won the Golden Boot for leading scorer with six goals.

Having experienced one of the finest periods in its history, when it reached two UEFA Champions League finals in three years and lost both to Real Madrid, Atletico is struggling in this season's La Liga. Diego Simeone's side is sixth after 16 games, nine points behind league leader and title favorite Real.
