Who Did Michelle Young Send Home on 'The Bachelorette' After the Hometown Dates?
The Bachelorette Season 18 is down to its final stretch after this week, which saw Michelle Young go on hometown dates with Brandon Jones, Joe Coleman, Nayte Olukoya and Rodney Matthews...
...Well, they are still called "hometown dates" per the usual ABC show parlance, but this year Michelle met all of the families of her suitors in Minneapolis rather in their respective hometowns. Though technically it can be classed as a hometown date because it, of course, is the city that both she and Joe are from.
After a series of dates in which Michelle sat on a bench and tried to gauge from the men's mothers how ready they are for marriage, she had another rose ceremony in which she chose her final three.
Good news for apple fans out there: You finally got your revenge.
Who left The Bachelorette this week?
Only one suitor was shown the door this week: 29-year-old sales representative Rodney Matthews from Rancho Cucamonga, California.
Rodney, of course, was the man who came the first week dressed as a red apple, the idea being that he was the apple being given to teacher Michelle. As Bachelorette opening gambits go, it was all very well and good until he said he was Granny Smith apple—which, as pretty much everyone except Rodney knows, are green.
(To be fair, food may not be Rodney's strong point: In a later blind taste test, he mistook pizza for lasagna.)
Men get lots of things out of being on The Bachelorette: Invitations to Bachelor in Paradise, influencer deals and the potential of being the next Bachelor, for example. Rodney, however, got the added bonus of learning fun apple facts from Michelle!
As Rodney exited the show, Michelle had some words for him. She said: "I need you to know that who you are is enough. It's just feelings moved quicker in other relationships."
In his exit interview, Rodney added: "I can never, ever forget the moments we shared here. It hurts. It just wasn't meant to be, I guess."
Who is in the final three of The Bachelorette?
The final four this year was the first featuring all people of color, and by extension The Bachelorette Season 18 will have the first all-PoC final. The final three fighting it out are:
- Brandon Jones, 26, a traveling nurse recruiter from Portland, Oregon
- Joe Coleman, 28, a real estate developer from Minneapolis
- Nayte Olukoya, 27, a sales executive from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
The final will be on Tuesday, December 21 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. But before that, we have "The Men Tell All" to look forward to on December 6. In the lead-up to that, all episodes of the season so far are streaming on Hulu.
