The Best Super Bowl LVI Ads: From Lizzo and Google to Lindsay Lohan and Planet Fitness

The Los Angeles Rams victory and the incredible half-time performance starring Mary J. Blige and rappers Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar, is not the only talking point of the Super Bowl LVI.

Once again, companies spanning health, food, drink, tech, and more paid the big bucks to have their latest commercial air during the Super Bowl for a short 30 seconds—and many did not disappoint.

Over the years, some Super Bowl ads have gone down in pop culture history, such as Cindy Crawford's Pepsi ad to Apple's 1984-inspired commercial. Some of the 2022 ads may have secured themselves a spot in Super Bowl history after some companies managed to get some of the biggest names in showbiz to star. Newsweek has taken a look at the best Super Bowl LVI ads you will not want to miss.

The Best Super Bowl LVI Ads

1. Google and Lizzo

Superstar Lizzo appears in Google's diversity-focused ad for its brand new Real Tone software.

The commercial promotes its brand new camera software, included on its Pixel 6 phones, which promises to capture Black skin tones better than before.

The powerful advert begins with the message "historically, camera technology hasn't accurately represented darker skin tones" before different voices can be heard sharing their experience of being black and having their photo taken.

As Lizzo sings "if you love me, you love all of me", the Google Pixel 6 is introduced on-screen and the result is impressive. In the pictures that follow, people from diverse backgrounds with darker skin tones can be seen crystal clear, unlike before.

The advert concludes with the caption: "everyone deserves to be seen as they truly are."

2. Doritos, Megan Thee Stallion, Charlie Puth and Salt-N-Peppa

Audiences can't get enough of Doritos and Hot Cheetos Super Bowl advert.

The short ad features several sloths snacking on some Doritos and Hot Cheetos as other animals from the rain forest start to eye up getting a share of the delicious snack.

A tiny bird, voiced by Megan Thee Stallion, appears from inside a crocodile's mouth singing the beginning of Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It". Elsewhere, Charlie Puth as a Fox is beatboxing the entire ad. You do not want to miss it.

3. Planet Fitness and Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan's comeback is going from strength to strength and her brand new ad for Planet Fitness is further proof.

In the advert, narrated by Star Trek's William Shatner, Lohan is living her best, healthy life. The trailer begins with Lohan sprinting on a treadmill while the rest of the gym points to her and asks: "What happened to Lindsay?"

She is seen upsetting the paparazzi by sleeping instead of partying late as she did in the 2000s, bejewelling DUI tags (a nod to her 2007 DUI arrest), and beating Dennis Rodman on Jeopardy in a round about questions regarding his own life. Go, Lindsay!

4. Squarespace and Zendaya

Emmy-winning actress Zendaya made her Super Bowl commercial debut this year.

For Squarespace, Zendaya has hit the beach in the role of Sally, who sells seashells by the seashore.

When a business hits a blip, Sally turns to Squarespace for help, setting up a website on the platform. Flashforward to the end of the advert and Sally has become a seaside icon, with her own store, yoga retreat passes, accessories, snacks, and sea excursions.

You may also recognize rapper Andre 3000 as the narrator of Zendaya's Squarespace ad. Talk about a dream team!

5. Amazon, Colin Jost, and Scarlett Johansson

Celebrity Power Couple Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson teamed up to promote Amazon Prime's Alexa.

In the hilarious advert, viewers get a small glimpse into the married life of Jost and Johansson and what it would be like if their Alexa could read their minds.

From ordering mouth wash for morning breath, faking their own death, and chilling a bottle of rose, Amazon's Super Bowl advert will have you laughing out loud.

6. Lays, Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen

For some wholesome Super Bowl content, you will not want to miss Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen in the hilarious Lay's commercial.

In the ad, Rudd and Rogen reminisce about their glory days over a share bag of lays ahead of Rogen's wedding to a ghost. As they think about the good times they've had, they realize every time, there was a bag of Lays in at least one of their hands.

At one point in the trailer, both Rudd and Rogen are using empty Lay's bags as an oxygen mask during plane turbulence and Rudd calls out "I've never seen any of your movies!" to which Rogen hilariously responds "Even the one we were in together?"

7. Salesforce and Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey has reprised his role as Cooper from Interstellar to big-up software company Salesforce's campaign #TeamEarth.

Salesforce's ad also throws some low-key shade at Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk by poking fun at Facebook and the modern space race at the hands of rich folk, telling audiences: "while the others look to the metaverse and Mars, let's stay here and restore ours...Cause the new frontier? It ain't rocket science. It's right here."
