Cara Delevingne Explains 'Odd' Behavior With Megan Thee Stallion at BBMAs

Cara Delevingne has spoken out about her "odd" behavior at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, July 27, the model explained her viral photos with Megan Thee Stallion. The 29-year-old made headlines for holding the train of the rapper's dress and making silly faces off-camera.

Delevingne joked that she was "working as her PA" because she "needed a side job" before explaining the real reason she attended the May awards show.

"I was in Vegas, we're friends. I really wanted to see her play, and she asked me to come along with her," she said. This year's event took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

She added, "I didn't know I was gonna go and sit or do anything. I thought I was just gonna come and watch her play."

Delevingne ended up helping her "memorize her speech" because "she was winning an award" that night before joining her on the red carpet.

"I was standing behind her and then she was trying to [do] the thing with fashion [where you] flick your [dress], and she couldn't really," she said, referring to the "Savage" singer's outfit, a black and beige Mugler mini skirt with a halter top and flowy scarf that hung from the side. "I was helping her and going like, 'Yeah, go!' Like hyping her up, being her hype woman."

The Only Murders in the Building actress admitted she was surprised to find she "had a seat in the front row" inside. She laughed, "I'm like, 'I'm not supposed to be here!'"

"And then I was getting on the floor taking pictures. That's what I do, I don't know. I was just really excited," Delevingne continued. "I'm like, 'Let me get my angle, guys! I'm a photographer.' It was so fun. I was living my best life, but people found it a little bit odd," she said. "People find me odd, but that's me. No shame."

Later in the evening, Megan, 27, whose real name is Megan Pete, performed her hit singles "Plan B" and "Sweetest Pie." When she picked up the award for Top Rap Female Artist for the second year in a row, Delevingne made the most meme-worthy faces that drew attention on social media.

"Why in every piece of media I see of Megan at this awards I see Cara Delevingne 5 inches away from her?" one person tweeted at the time.

Another asked, "WHY WAS SHE CREEPING?" while a third said, "Cara Delevingne's behavior so greatly outweighs anything embarrassing I've ever done that I think she cured my anxiety."

A fourth chimed in, "I think Megan Thee Stallion needs a new assistant, this Cara Delevingne woman is a little much."

Despite the backlash, people had nothing but kind words to say about her interview with Fallon. "She's not 'odd,' she's quirky, high energy and adorable!" someone wrote on YouTube. "Never knew her 'til Only Murders, what an actress."

"She was so delightful, and I got such a kick out of that interview. I'm a fan of Only Murders in the Building," a separate user said.

Though it's unclear how exactly the pair met, they were seen dancing together at Cardi B's Met Gala afterparty in New York City in May, just a couple weeks before the BBMAs.

Newsweek has reached out to Delevingne and Pete's representatives for comment.
