Cat Lying on Windowsill in 'Oddest Sleeping Position' Delights the Internet

An adorable picture of a cat that fell asleep on a windowsill has melted hearts online.

The picture, which can be seen here, was shared on Sunday on the popular Reddit forum r/cats now has over 32,000 upvotes and hundreds of delighted comments.

Posted by user rosso2099 with the caption "My boy Eddie sleeping" the gorgeous picture shows Eddie the cat fast asleep with his front paws and head on a windowsill and back legs below.

Eddie lives in Lincolnshire, U.K. with his owners, who told Newsweek: "[This is] the first time we have seen him asleep like that but we have only had him and his brother 3 weeks."

As any cat owner will tell you, our feline friends are particularly fond of their naptime. In fact, it is not unusual for adult cats can sleep for around 16 hours per day, a number that often increases as they get older.

Cats are crepuscular, which means they are most active during dawn and dusk—other animals in this category include deer, skunks, opossums, and rabbits.

Eddie the cat is seen sleeping delightfully on the window and has thrilled internet users. One Redditor wrote: "He fell asleep while daydreaming about catching a bird or a squirrel." Another said: "Plain tuckered out."

The cat's sleep pattern is a little different from ours. One study from 1973 reported that cats slept for about 79 of every 104 minutes. But unlike humans who usually sleep in one long stint through the night, the feline sleep schedule is defined by more frequent short bursts of rest.

Our feline friends aren't alone in enjoying a nap though. Research from the Pew Research Center undertaken in 2009 found that on a typical day 34 percent of adults in the U.S. take a nap.

The cat's unusual sleeping position at the window brought particular joy to Redditors. One commenter said: "I've never seen a cat sleeping multi-level like that before! They usually pick one surface or the other, He's enjoying the smooth windowsill and the soft couch at the same time." Another wrote: "The oddest sleeping position I have seen to date."

"We all remarked about how cute he looked," said the poster rosso2099. "We think the viral reaction is a bit crackers."

"Now that is just too precious," wrote one commenter. Another user said: "Looks like he's on duty at the local drive-thru on a slow day."

Earlier this March, one cat's adorable sleeping position in a man's robe also delighted the internet.
