Distraught Dad Offers Daughter $2,000 to Not Get Vaccine in Video

Footage of a Kentucky father offering his daughter $2,000 to not take the coronavirus vaccine because of concerns about its safety has gone viral online.

In the TikTok video, which was filmed without his knowledge, the distraught dad can be heard pleading with his child. The clip, shared by @appaloosauce, starts with him saying: "It is not by definition a vaccine."

When his daughter, known online as Brianna, asks what he thinks it is, he then responds: "It is a human trial, it is genetic therapy...It is not FDA approved."

The FDA has authorized the emergency use of COVID vaccines instead of approving them through the usual channels because that might add another year to the process, causing many more deaths. The vaccines are expected to go into the pipeline for full FDA approval eventually, but the urgent priority has been tackling the pandemic.

The girl, who in the end did take the vaccine, then asks her father: "Why are you trying to buy me off with it though?"

His voice becomes more agitated as he responds: "Because I love you, why do you think I want to buy you off?"

When Brianna tells him she does not want the money, he replies: "I know you don't, but I don't know what else to do."

The young woman then says: "You didn't do this to Michael and Kelsey, they already got it."

This causes the man break down, crying: "Don't you think I know that, don't you think I know that? What do you think, I am f***ing crazy? Your mother got it. Why do you think I'm f***ing crazy?"

He then exclaims: "My family is gone, my family is gone. By the end of this flu season most of them will be dead. What the f*** do you expect me to be?"

The emotional video, which was posted on May 25, has so far received more than 114,600 views. It has also been shared widely on Twitter.

Many took to the comments section to share their sympathy with Brianna and concerns about her father's words.

One TikTok user, Lynn Chavira, wrote: "I really feel so sorry for these people they're so far down the rabbit hole I don't think there's any hope."

Another person, Kevin De Lorey, added: "None of what he said is true. I'm sorry girl. He's so lost."

John typed: "Pops is going through some stuff. It's sad but it's not his fault. There's just too much misinformation online and he bought into it."

NiksTheLaw asked: "How much money are we talking?" Brianna replied: "$2000."

Alan Brandon Rivera commented: "This is so sad. He actually, whole-heartedly believes what he is saying. Get your shot, girl. Be strong."

Brianna then posted a follow up video on May 26, thanking viewers for their support and confirming that she had just got the vaccine.
