Trump Impeachment Hearing Interrupted by Infowars Host Heckling Jerry Nadler

A host from far-right conspiracy website Infowars interrupted the start of a hearing inquiry for the possible impeachment of President Donald Trump, shouting that the process was a "scam."

The Democratic chairman of the house judiciary committee, Jerry Nadler, was giving his opening statement when Infowars' Owen Shroyer started shouting from the back of the committee room in Capitol Hill on Monday.

He shouted: "Jerry Nadler and the Democrat party are committing treason against this country, and you can kick me out, but he's the one committing crimes. You are, Jerry Nadler."

"You're the one committing treason. America is done with this."

"We voted for Donald Trump, and they're simply removing him because they don't like him," he yelled, adding: "Americans are sick of your impeachment scam...Trump is innocent!" in footage that he posted on Twitter.

Shroyer was escorted out of the building by police. He tweeted footage showing him outside with his hands cuffed behind his back and being spoken to by police officers.

After the exit, Nadler banged the gavel and insisted that the "committee would come to order," and that the audience at the proceedings were present only "to observe but not to demonstrate." He added: "We will maintain decorum in the hearing room."

Communications director of Washington DC's Capitol Police, Eva Malecki, told Newsweek in a statement that officers had "arrested one adult male in room 1100 of the Longworth House Office Building.

"He was charged with D.C. Code 10-503.16— Disruption of Congress," she added. Newsweek has also contacted the White House for comment.

Shroyer hosts The War Room on Infowars, an outlet that has been banned from YouTube, along with the channel's founder and owner Alex Jones.

Shroyer has peddled a number of conspiracy theories and he sparked controversy earlier this year when he made the call to lynch former president Barack Obama, whom he described as "treasonous."

"I mean look, I'm not saying this should happen but Barack Obama, you know, find the tallest tree and a rope," he told Breitbart in June.

The hearings on Monday heard bi-partisan lawyers from both the judiciary and intelligence committees testify about two investigations.

The Guardian reported that the judiciary committee could draft and vote on articles of impeachment by the end of the week, raising the possibility of a House vote on impeachment this side of Christmas.
