Donald Trump Retweets Bot That Rewrites His Tweets to Make them About Sharks

President Donald Trump on Sunday retweeted a bot account that apparently uses automatic word replacement to rewrite his tweets to make them about sharks.

The Twitter page—titled "Trump But About Sharks" with the handle @tbasharks—shared the following tweet on Sunday: "RT @BulldawgDerek: @foxandfriends A Sunday Morning; Amen Mark Levin, Preach Brother! You shut down Ed Henry and the Pro Shark Media with the fac..."

The president retweeted the post just before midday amid a series of other retweets praising conservative radio personality Mark Levin's argument with Fox News host Ed Henry that occurred during a segment on Sunday morning.

According to Trump But About Shark's Twitter bio, the page is a bot that does some word replacement on the president's tweets to make them about sharks because he allegedly dislikes the fish. As of Sunday evening, the tweet had been shared more than 15,000 times, retweeted by 3,600 users and garnered at least 800 comments. Usually posts shared by the page receive less than 50 likes and under 10 re-shares. Trump's retweet had clearly boosted the Sunday post's reach.

"I can't believe Trump retweeted this bot account about turning his tweets into stuff about sharks without even noticing the unflattering profile picture," American surgeon Eugene Gu, one of the president's loudest Twitter critics, wrote in the comments section. Another user pointed out that the page appears to be "mocking Trump."

Trump's frantic series of retweets praising Levin comes after the radio host lashed out at Fox News' Ed Henry for asking him repeatedly whether he approves of the president's actions in relation to the Ukraine scandal.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiry into Trump on Tuesday after a whistleblower filed a formal complaint—released publicly on Thursday—that accused the White House of covering up a phone conversation made between the president and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, in July, during which the U.S. leader asked the foreign president to investigate his political opponent former Vice President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden.

A partial transcript—shared by the White House on Wednesday—proved that Trump did ask Ukraine for assistance in probing Biden's family.

When asked whether Trump did anything "illegal" by Henry, Levin responded: "What crime was violated? It's not illegal. The question is whether Biden did something illegal. The president didn't do anything illegal."

Levin proceeded to criticize the media for allegedly failing to look into the accusations against Biden. "Your question is not honest," he said after Henry re-asked the question.

Trump did nothing "illegal," he continued, "It's not immoral, it's not unethical, and if you guys in the media would do your damn job and ask Joe Biden and Hunter Biden what the Hell's going on, maybe the president wouldn't have to raise the issue."

"I don't have a problem" with Trump's conversation with Zelensky, Levin added.
