Drew McIntyre Defeats Brock Lesnar to Win WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36

It may not be how he envisioned it, but Drew McIntyre won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36 by defeating Brock Lesnar.

McIntyre would survive three F-5s to become the first WWE superstar from the United Kingdom to become world champion. It would take four Claymores of his own to put away "The Beast," but nothing was going to stand in the way of the "Scotish Terminator" from winning the top title on Monday Night RAW.

Now that McIntyre has vanquished Brock Lesnar, Monday Night RAW won't ever be the same. Whenever the WWE returns to arenas with fans again it'll be interesting to see where McIntyre goes from here and who he will take on next.

The road to this victory was long for McIntyre. After coming into the WWE back in the early 2000s, Drew was pegged to be the next big thing by Mr. McMahon himself. However, while he would become Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion, McIntyre would himself admit that he got in his own head. This would lead to his eventual release in 2011.

The release would wake up McIntyre, however, as he would work the independent scene for five years before returning to the WWE as a part of the NXT brand. He would become NXT Champion, but lose it to Andrade before getting injured. Once he recovered, McIntyre would return as part of the RAW brand.

He would float in the upper midcard for a while, feuding with Roman Reigns heading into last year's WrestleMania before finally getting the push many fans thought he deserved towards the end of 2019.

This push would see a face turn for McIntyre, and a win at this year's Royal Rumble. What made this match special for Drew was that Brock Lesnar entered the match at number one and would last for almost 30 minutes. It would be McIntyre - with the help of Ricochet - who would eventually eliminate Lesnar.

So when McIntyre won the Royal Rumble and came out the next night on RAW, he made his declaration for WrestleMania 36 and challenged Lesnar.

After both men would go back and forth in the weeks leading to this weekend's event, the two would finally get in the ring Sunday night to settle things.

Lesnar won the WWE Championship on the first episode of Friday Night SmackDown on Fox, defeating Kofi Kingston in seconds. He would defend his title against Rey Mysterio and Ricochet before going head-to-head against McIntyre.
