In just a few short days, everyone will be playing Marvel Rivals, the highly-anticipated hero shooter from NetEase Games. The game's closed beta was impressive, showcasing highly destructible environments and dozens of Marvel heroes dashing across the battlefield without tanking the frame rate. NetEase has now revealed what PlayStation 5 owners should expect from the game's graphics and performance on their platform of choice, and it sounds promising.

In a new PlayStation blog post, Marvel Rivals producer Stephen Wu revealed that the game will target 60fps at 1440p on the base PS5. On PS5 Pro, the game runs at the same frame rate but at a higher resolution closer to 4K.

The more interesting point is that it will also offer a High Frame Rate mode that runs at "up to 120 fps" on both consoles, offering a competitive advantage to players with appropriate displays. On top of running at a higher frame rate, this mode will also cut down on input latency, which is far more important in a multiplayer game.

The PS5 Pro enhancements for the game are not unlike the massive graphical boost Fortnite enjoys on the console, which also renders at a significantly higher resolution.

Marvel Rivals supports Unreal Engine 5's Lumen global illumination on the base PS5, while the PS5 Pro gets Lumen reflections without any performance cost. Players on Sony's upgraded console will enjoy accurate ray-traced reflections without having to compromise on its performance.

The game also features NetEase's "Chaos Destruction technology", which became a showstopper for the hero shooter during its closed beta. It'll be interesting to see how well the game's performance holds up when millions of players log in to destroy its gorgeous environments in battles.

PlayStation 5 owners are also getting extra skins for free, so there are a lot of incentives for interested players to check it out on Sony's console. Xbox Series X|S owners will also enjoy a similar feature set and performance, as seen in Digital Foundry's performance preview for the game. Expect the Xbox version to feature a high frame rate mode, though Xbox Series S owners will probably have to settle for 60fps.
