New ‘FLCL’ Seasons Premiere on Adult Swim this June

More than 15 years since its release in Japan, two new seasons of FLCL are coming to Adult Swim beginning this summer.

Debuting during Adult Swim ’s Toonami anime block, the first of two new seasons of FLCL will premiere Saturday June 2 at 11:30 p.m. ET. The two new seasons of FLCL will bring in original members of the animation team alongside a new generation of creators.

FLCL has always been a personal favorite of mine, and having the opportunity to work with Production IG on these new seasons has been a dream come true,” said Jason DeMarco, senior vice president and creative director for on-air at Adult Swim.

The first new FLCL season will be titled FLCL: Progressive and tells the story of 14-year-old Hidomi, her classmate Ide, and two otherworldly beings, “Jinyu” and “Haruha Raharu.” The two beings are determined to unlock the hidden potential of Hidomi and Ide but an all-powerful force known as “ATOMSK” gets mixed into the craziness.

FLCL: Alternative will follow Progressive and be produced by a different team of young creators. This season will follow 17-year-old Kana, a high school junior who spends her days hanging out with Mossan, Hijiri and Pets. They live normal lives, until a Mecha falls out of the sky along with a woman named Haruko. Kari Wahlgren will return to reprise her role. Haruko’s plans for Kana and her friends involve “ATOMSK” and Kana will have to decide whether to help. Alternative will follow Progressive and premiere in September.
