Genevieve Brinson, Missing California Teen, Found Dead in Abandoned Car

A 14-year-old girl's body was found in an abandoned vehicle on Monday in California, according to police.

The Victorville Police Department issued a press release on Tuesday confirming the identity of the girl, and also noted that they did not currently have any suspects.

Genevieve Brinson had been reported missing on February 25, 2022. Police did not make clear whose custody Brinson was in, but she had previously lived at a group home.

"On March 7, 2022, at 9:51 a.m. Sheriff's dispatch received a call of a possibly deceased person in a field west of Home Depot located at 15655 Roy Rogers Drive in Victorville," the press release read.

"When deputies arrived, they located a deceased female in an abandoned vehicle. Sheriff's Deputy Coroner Investigator R. London responded to the scene.

"London obtained a fingerprint from the body and worked with Sheriff's fingerprint examiners to determine the identification of the decedent. The female was positively identified as 14-year-old Genevieve Brinson."

Police were able to learn that Brinson was living in the abandoned vehicle with a friend.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of death and the body has been sent to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Division.

Police are asking for anyone with information about the Brinson to contact the Victorville Police Department at 760 241-2911 or Sheriff's Dispatch at 760 956 5001.

In 2020, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department issued a press release regarding Brinson as she was suspected of running away from her group home in Calimesa.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at age 12, Brinson ran away from her group home. On May 20, 2020, The Riverside County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force took on the investigation.

Brinson was missing for at least a month as the Riverside County Sheriff's Department issued the press release on July 16, 2020.

"July 14, 2020, witnesses saw a juvenile that matched Genevieve's description near the business commercial area of 72000 block of Varner Road in the unincorporated Riverside County area of Thousand Palms," the press release said.

The Police continued to ask the public for support in finding Brinson. She was eventually found but it is not clear when.

Newsweek has contacted the Victorville Police Department for comment.

The Victorville Police Department also issued a missing person report for another 14-year-old this week.

On Monday in a Twitter post, they said that Julianna Rilet was last seen on March 6, 2022 and had not been in contact with her family since her disappearance. They also attached an image of the teenager and described her last location.

In an update the following day, they said that she had been located and safely returned home.
