Girl, 6, Attacked by 'Mean' Wolf-Like Dog in Las Vegas Park

A 6-year-old girl has been attacked by a "really mean" wolf-like dog in Las Vegas, according to her family.

The attack took place earlier this month while Chloe Sunder was walking with her aunt and grandma in Sunset Dog Park on East Warm Springs Road.

"She started running toward the obstacle course and that is when the dog started to tackle her and started thrashing her," Daphne Neal, the girl's aunt, told KLAS, a CBS affiliate based in Las Vegas.

The family told the TV station that they were initially unsure whether or not the girl had been bitten by the dog, which appeared to be a wolf hybrid. But the 6-year-old had sustained several injuries so she was taken to the emergency room for treatment.

Chloe told KLAS: "This dog came out of nowhere. I was thinking he was a wolf, and he was really mean. He doesn't like kids."

Figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that around 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs every year in the United States. In roughly 800,000 of these cases, the bites require medical attention. At least half of those bitten are children, according to the CDC.

At the dog park, the animal's owner managed to pull it away from the six-year-old child. But when the woman saw the injuries that the girl had sustained, she fled the scene, according to Chloe's family.

"I'm thinking maybe she's putting the dog away so that we can exchange information or something like that because this is an emergency," Neal said.

The family described the dog's owner as a blonde woman in her 40s. One eyewitness managed to take down her license plate number, which was registered to the state of Utah.

Neal said: "You are responsible for your animal especially when they are violent, and I can't believe an adult would walk away from a child being injured like that."

After the attack, Chloe had to have several rounds of rabies shots because the dog's vaccination status was unknown.

The family want the owner of the dog to cover the girl's medical bills and have put up posters in Las Vegas seeking information about the woman.

Clark County officials said the Animal Control department was investigating the incident. Newsweek has contacted Animal Control for further comment.

Chloe, meanwhile, appears to be staying strong in the face of adversity. "I'm really tough," she told KLAS.
