A subtle farewell to the late director Rob Reiner
Host Nikki Glaser said ahead of tonight's show that she would pay a tribute to the recently murdered, 78-year-old acclaimed filmmaker and actor, Rob Reiner, and his wife.
Unlike some awards ceremonies, the Golden Globes doesn't offer an in memoriam segment, and does not remember notable figures lost in the last year.
While the show did not feature an official tribute to Reiner, or some of the other stars who died this year including Robert Redford, Glaser honored Spinal Tap director Reiner in her own way.
Glaser donned a Spinal Tap baseball cap at the end other show.
Reiner and his wife were found stabbed to death at their Hollywood home in December. Their son has been arrested.

Zhao then stepped up to the mic, to thank the cast and crew, and share a comment from one of the movie's stars, Paul Mescal, who said being an artist was about sharing oneself with the world, "even the parts of ourselves that we’re ashamed of, that we’re afraid of, that are imperfect. So the people that we speak to, they can also learn to see themselves and fully accept themselves."

Actor Sydney Sweeney didn’t get nominated for her role in Christy for a Golden Globe or Critics Choice award after a politically charged year.
Sweeney's absence at the Globes is noticeable, and the star was included in notable roundups of actors snubbed by the Golden Globes.
Lindsey Bahr, a film writer for the Associated Press, wrote that the Globes should have wanted a huge star like Sweeney nominated for an award.
“It flopped at the box office, but in the most cynical sense, you’d think the show would want Sweeney, who seemingly can’t help going viral, gracing the red carpet,” Bahr wrote.

History of the Golden Globes: What to know
The Golden Globe Awards were first held in 1944, created by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to honor excellence in film. Television categories were added in 1956, making the Globes one of the first major awards to recognize both film and TV. From early on, the ceremony became known for spotlighting international talent and for dividing film awards into Drama and Musical or Comedy, a format that still distinguishes it today.
Over the decades, the Golden Globes grew in influence as a key stop in the awards season, often shaping expectations for the Oscars and Emmys.
In the early 2020s, the awards faced criticism over ethics and lack of diversity, leading to major reforms. In 2021, a Los Angeles Times investigation revealed that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) — the then-small group of voters — had no Black members and was accused of unethical behavior and exclusionary practices. That sparked industry backlash, public boycotts from artists and studios, and even NBC dropping the telecast, all of which put serious pressure on the organization to change.
In 2023, the Globes were sold to new owners and the HFPA was dissolved. The awards organization expanded its voting pool dramatically — from fewer than 100 members to over 300 international journalists from dozens of countries — and introduced new diversity, ethics, and governance standards designed to make the selection process fairer and more representative of the global entertainment community.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s husband had blunt 7-word take on ‘SATC’ opportunity
Sarah Jessica Parker was honored with the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett Award for lifetime achievement in television at the Golden Eve ceremony, with the accolade presented by her husband of nearly 30 years, actor Matthew Broderick.
Broderick reflected on Parker’s early career during his tribute, recalling a pivotal moment when she first received the script for Sex and the City. He said he asked Parker, now 60, who went on to win six Golden Globes and two Emmys for the show, “Do you really want to do TV?” when she first received the script, according to AP.
Broderick suggested that if she had listened to him, it might never have happened.
Parker’s acting career now spans more than four decades. Mark Ruffalo leads celebrities donning anti-ICE pins at Golden Globes
Mark Ruffalo was among the celebrities donning anti-ICE pins at the Golden Globes on Sunday after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and killed Minneapolis woman Renee Good.
The black-and-white pins displayed slogans that read “BE GOOD” and “ICE OUT.” The appearance of the pins suggests that some stars may use their speeches to discuss politics or human rights this evening.
The ICE shooting on Wednesday has sparked protests across the country, as demonstrators demand accountability from the federal agency. A separate shooting in Portland, where agents wounded two people, has only inflamed the tensions.
“We need our artists. We need our entertainers. We need the folks who reflect society. We need every part of civil society, society to speak up,” Nelini Stamp of Working Families Power, one of the organizers for the anti-ICE pins, told the Associated Press.

10 awkward celeb moments at awards shows through the years
Awards season is always a glamorous time of year, when Hollywood's biggest stars turn out in their finest outfits to schmooze and vie for the industry's biggest prizes. But with live TV comes the opportunity for the unexpected, from the touching moments and powerful speeches to the cringe-worthy episodes that live on in history. Here are 10 awkward encounters — in no particular order — from over the years.
Adrien Brody's Surprise Halle Berry Kiss
At the 2003 Academy Awards, Adrien Brody was so happy to win the trophy for Best Actor for his role in The Pianist that he laid a big smooch on presenter Halle Berry's lips. In 2017, Berry confirmed to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that "No, it was not planned."
Christine Lahti's Bathroom Break
It's every actor's worst nightmare: winning an award while you're in the bathroom. For Christine Lahti, this became reality at the 1998 Golden Globes. She was in the powder room when her name was called as Best Actress winner for Chicago Hope. To make light of the situation, the next year she presented an award with toilet paper artfully stuck to the bottom of her shoe.
Will Smith's Chris Rock Slap
Comedian Chris Rock's role as host of the 2022 Oscars got physical after making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head, saying he "can't wait to see" her in the sequel to G.I. Jane. What he didn't know was that the actress has alopecia, which stunts hair growth. Her husband, Will Smith, took to the stage on live TV and slapped Rock for the remark, later apologizing for his actions while on stage to accept his Best Actor award for King Richard. He was still banned from the awards show for 10 years.

What to know about the iconic Golden Globes statuette
The Golden Globes statuette is a gold-colored award shaped like a globe, symbolizing the global reach of film and television.
Despite their golden color, they are mainly composed of marble and zinc, then electroplated in gold. While they are not the heaviest award ceremony statuette, the trophy still weighs a significant 7.8 pounds. It stands at 11.5 inches tall with a 3.5 inch square base.
New York trophy designer and manufacturer, Society Awards, has been making the Golden Globes statuette since 2009. Each statuette can take 12 to 20 hours to manufacture, while the whole process taking up to four months to make around 100,000 a year, according to Yahoo Entertainment.
Burt Reynolds famously sold his Golden Globes awards, in 2014, as he struggled financially following a divorce. The first Globe he received in 1992, for his role on Evening Shade, sold for $14,080. A second award, for Boogie Nights, sold for $21,760.

Movie director Rob Reiner to be honored at tonight’s Globes
Host Nikki Glaser said she plans to honor the recently killed Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner. The couple was found dead in December. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner officially reported that they died from “multiple sharp force injuries.” Their son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He appeared in court for a second time on January 7.
Glaser told USA Today that, while there is no in memoriam portion of the program, "I have something planned that I'm going to do in my own way to just acknowledge (Reiner) and celebrate him in my own way."
She says she knew the filmmaker and actor, "but not that well." She continued, "I'm not going to linger on it too much because I think that's what we've been doing for the past few weeks. But obviously, I thought if something happened to me and Rob Reiner was hosting a show, given our relationship, how would I want him to handle it? I think I landed on something that I feel he would do for me, too."
