Groom-To-Be Picking Dog To Be 'Best Boy' at Wedding Melts Hearts

A groom-to-be has shared how his dog will be his "best boy" at his upcoming wedding, to the delight of internet users.

Jake is from Canada and is getting married next month. On Wednesday, he shared how his Boxer and King Corso mix dog Bodhi will be the "best boy" at his wedding.

With more than 13,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments, the post featuring the pup in his wedding-ready outfit became a fast favorite on the popular Reddit forum r/aww.

Two-year-old Bodhi was adopted by Jake's fiancé from a rescue center, and after the couple started dating, Jake became fast friends with the canine.

"We met on Reddit and did long-distance for almost a year, visiting maybe every other month," Jake told Newsweek: "I was actually more of a cat person before, not that I don't love dogs too, but Bodhi just won me over hard and he's my furry little best friend. He snuggles with me probably more and insists on squeezing between us at night no matter how awkward."

Ahead of their wedding, Jake explained that they always wanted him to be part of their big day, but there was a snag.

"We are having it at a Cuban resort which he can't come to, so we decided to do a small intimate thing with a few people that couldn't make it for the legal ceremony," explained Jake.

"The original plan was for him to be a ring bearer—or bear if we found a cute bear costume for him, like in How I Met Your Mother—but we decided he should be the best man and I keep insisting that his title is best boy," he said.

In a recent survey by U.K. personalized pet accessories site Yappy.com, research found that many pet owners are taking man's best friend to a new level by giving them a role on their wedding day.

Some 58 percent of respondents said their canine friends were the ring bearer on their big day, while 34 percent said their pooch walked the bride down the aisle. And, 17 percent of people even said that their dog joined in on their first dance.

"He will probably just stand beside me," said Jake. "Maybe hold the rings if we figure out a good way to do it."

Reddit users were obsessed with the news of the "best boy" and headed to the comments to share their thoughts.

"He's the goodest best boy," said one reply, while another commenter wrote: "He already looks like he's mastered his role."

Another Redditor wrote: "How elegant," while one user said: "He's a best boy regardless of the marriage."

Other commenters shared stories of how their dogs became part of their big day. One user said: "My pup wore a 'Best Dog' scarf at my wedding two years ago. Was a great decision," while another wrote: "I'm getting married in September and our Newfoundland will be our flower girl."
