Who Is Laura Loomer? Activist Accosts 'Jihadi' Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib at Campaign Event

In a video she posted that begins with the title "Enemies of the State," far-right activist Laura Loomer confronted a Muslim state rep and congressional candidate.

At a campaign event for Minnesota State Rep. Ilhan Omar, Loomer accosts Omar and Michigan U.S. House Representative candidate Rashida Tlaib.

In the heavily edited video you can hear Loomer shout questions and statements toward Tlaib, who recently won her primary in Michigan, and Omar, who is running for Rep. Keith Ellison's seat.

"Rashida, are you willing to admit as a congresswoman that Hamas is a terrorist organization?"

"What about your Jewish constituents?"

"Why is she so hateful against Israel?"

"Ilhan, why did you marry your brother?"

Omar previously responded to the last accusation, saying "A number of baseless rumors have been made recently about my personal life and family. I will say it again here: they are absolutely false and ridiculous."

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune Loomer said she is traveling the country "investigating" Muslim candidates for office. On Sunday Loomer continued to prod Omar and Tlaib, tweeting "I am the granddaughter of a Jewish man who was arrested by Nazis in Germany. I REFUSE to be silenced & sit back & allow for @IlhanMN and @RashidaTlaib to spew Jew hatred," she said. "They are anti-American and anti-Jewish."

Omar has not provided a statement on the incident but posted a tweet Sunday thanking her supporters.

"Thank you @RashidaTlaib and her team for joining us this weekend. Rashida knows that when we talk to voters about what is at stake, they turn out," Omar said.

Minnesota State Rep Raymond Dehn told the Star-Tribune that these type of incidents are unfortunately becoming more common.

"I've seen way too much of this, and it's really getting sickening," Dehn said. "There was a great group of people that were showing support for Rashida and Ilhan, and when you looked at the room, it was a room that reflects America. It was a diverse group of people. Islamophobia really has no place."

Toward the end of the clip Loomer said "both of these candidates have been endorsed by CAIR, a terrorist organization... She needs to decide if she's an American or a Muslim first."

Loomer has a long history of public animosity toward Muslims. Last year, on shortly after an attack in lower Manhattan, Loomer blasted "Islamic" Uber and Lyft drivers. "Someone needs to create a non Islamic form of @uber or @lyft because I never want to support another Islamic immigrant driver," she tweeted at the time. "I'm late to the NYPD press conference because I couldn't find a non Muslim cab or @Uber @lyft driver for over 30 min!" She has since deleted the tweets.

It's worth nothing that when you order a car from Lyft and Uber the driver's religion isn't information that's available, just name, picture, car type and license plate.

The bigoted tirade got Loomer banned from both Lyft and Uber.

Newsweek reached out to the Omar campaign for comment and will update the story if a statement is provided.
