A dog sharing the couch with his owner has delighted the internet after a picture of the pup kicking back has gone viral.
Shared on Sunday, Reddit user The_north_forest posted the image with the caption: "'Sharing the couch," which now has more than 14,000 upvotes.
The Great Pyrenees dog—although the poster does note that they think the dog may be a mix with another breed like a St. Bernard or Mastiff because of his size—is relaxing on the couch with a woman at the other end sitting alongside the pup.
"Wow," wrote one commenter: "Why is there a small pony on your couch?" Another Redditor wrote: "Fluffer pupper!! Looks so snuggly."
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the Great Pyrenees was recognized as a breed by the AKC in 1933 and is now the 66th most popular breed in the U.S. The AKC says the incredibly big and strong dogs average around 32 inches in height and often weigh more than 100 pounds.
"Excuse me, ma'am. There appears to be a polar bear on your couch," joked one commenter.
American home design site Houzz surveyed 10,000 pet owners in 11 countries—the U.S., Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, Germany, Australia, and Japan.
The survey found that pet owners in the U.S. are most likely to treat their canine friends like family, with 48 percent of respondents stating that their dogs have full access to the furniture. According to data from the American Pet Products Association (APPA), Americans spent around $103.6 billion on their companions in 2020—up by nearly $13.1 billion from 2018.
"You're lucky the dog is being nice and letting you sit on his couch with him which is a blessing," wrote one commenter.
"I'm sorry but what is the pup supposed to do when you bought the couch too short?" joked another Redditor.
Another reply to the viral image said: "The issue is when you have people over and they don't realize they are in the dog's spot until he joins them and decides to share." And another commenter agreed and wrote: "This!! We have a whole set of pics of guests laughing hysterically when the 'living blanket' hops up on the couch and flops down on them like they aren't even there."
Last week, another Great Pyrenees delighted the internet after a picture of her visiting the office with her owner went viral on Reddit. "She's just too happy to be with you at work," said one comment. "So cute."
