Jared Leto Nominated for Two Razzies for Worst Actor After 'House of Gucci' Oscars Snub

Jared Leto may have missed out on an Oscar nomination for his much talked-about role in House of Gucci, but he has been recognized with two nominations at the 2022 Razzie Awards.

The Golden Raspberry Awards, or Razzies, as they are more commonly known, is a parody award that celebrates the worst movies and performances in cinema over the past year.

No one appears safe from the Razzie Awards as previous Oscar-recognized talent such as Leto, Amy Adams, Ben Affleck, Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg are all nominated this year.

Leto specifically had been tipped for an Academy Award nomination for his role in House of Gucci but instead ended up with a couple of Razzie nods.

Jared Leto's Campaign Trail

House of Gucci enjoyed a successful awards season, with many nominations and a couple of wins for the cast and for the movie. Lady Gaga was the biggest recipient of praise for her role in Ridley Scott's Italian biographical crime drama, earning a Golden Globe and a BAFTA nomination. But she was snubbed at the Oscars and the movie received just one nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Leto was nominated for a Critics' Choice Movie Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance as Paolo Gucci and had seemingly been campaigning for an Oscar nomination too. On February 1, 2022, he shared an image of himself in character from House of Gucci on Twitter with reviews of his performance, nominations he's received, and a banner reading, "For your consideration, Best Supporting Actor, Jared Leto."

It appears his campaign to receive Academy Award credit was ultimately unsuccessful, but he wouldn't have been the first actor to receive both an Oscar and a Razzie nomination for the same role.

In 2021, Glenn Close received nominations for Best and Worst Supporting Actress for her role in Hillbilly Elegy. Prior to this, Amy Irving hit both ends of the spectrum with her role in Yentl in 1984 while James Coco for his role in the 1981 movie Only When I Laugh was also nominated for an Oscar and a Razzie Award.

At the 2022 Razzie Awards, Leto is up for two prizes: Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Screen Combo. The latter satirically pairs Leto with "either his 17-pound latex face, his geeky clothes or his ridiculous accent."

2022 Golden Raspberry Awards Nominees

As is usually the case, the Razzie Awards is full of well-known talent who acted in a box office bomb or two across the past year.

The Worst Actor category features Scott Eastwood (Dangerous), LeBron James (Space Jam: A New Legacy), Roe Hartrampf (Diana the Musical), Mark Wahlberg (Infinite) and Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen). Platt can count himself unlucky as his role in Dear Evan Hansen landed him a Tony and a Grammy Award for his stage version of the musical.

The nominees for Worst Actress are Amy Adams (The Woman in the Window), Jeanna de Waal (Diana the Musical), Megan Fox (Midnight in the Switchgrass), Taryn Manning (Karen) and Ruby Rose (Vanquish). Adams is nominated again in the Worst Supporting Actress role, once again for Dear Evan Hansen.

There is also a special category made specifically for Bruce Willis in the past year. He's nominated eight times in the "Worst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie" category. He's destined to win for one of the following eight movies: American Siege, Apex, Cosmic Sin, Deadlock, Fortress, Midnight in the Switchgrass, Out of Death or Survive the Game.

In other categories the likes of Ben Affleck (The Last Duel), Nick Cannon (The Misfits), Mel Gibson (Dangerous) and director Joe Wright (The Woman in the Window) are nominated. Diana the Musical leads the way with nine nominations while Karen and The Woman in the Window have five nods each.

The winners will be announced at the 42nd Golden Raspberry Awards ceremony which is held on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
