Jim Carrey's older sister is dead at 68.

Rita's husband of 16 years, Alex, announced her death in a Facebook post on Friday, November 15.

"It is with heavy heart and my deepest sadness, surrounded by her family and friends Rita passed away peacefully and quietly on November 14 2024," Alex wrote. "Rita and I (Alex) have been together for 16 years and we just got married last year in July in an outdoor wedding that she has always wanted. We travelled the world and met many people who we consider friends. Rita was my bestest friend, my lover and my beautiful wife. Rita always had a loving soul and wanted to help everyone even total strangers."

Elsewhere in the post, Alex invited family and friends to a candlelight vigil set to take place on December 7. Alex also invited readers to make donations to an organization called Gillian's Place.

Alex closed the post with a heartbreaking farewell message for his late wife.

"Goodbye my lover, Goodbye my friend, Until we meet again, You really did have the Time of your life," he wrote.

Rita was born in Canada and is the daughter of parents Kathleen and Percy Carrey. She was one of four children, including actor Jim, John and Patricia.

Rita worked as a radio personality and sang in a band called The Rita Carrey Band, which had previously opened for acts like April Wine and Honeymoon Suite.

According to a report from TMZ, Brian Salmon, who was Rita's co-host on 91.7 Giant FM, paid tribute to her calling her a "tremendous person." He also noted that Rita rarely bragged about her connections within Hollywood, but often auctioned off items from Jim's movies and donated the proceeds to charity.

At the time of writing, a cause of death has not been revealed.
