Joe Biden's 'Will You Shut Up, Man' Debate Line Gives Birth to Meme

One stand-out moment of the first presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden that had everybody talking last night was Biden's retort to Trump's interruptions: "Will you shut up, man?"

Biden's reply came as Trump continued to interrupt him when discussing the Supreme Court. When moderator Chris Wallace stepped in, Biden said, "This is so unpresidential," later telling Trump, "Keep yapping, man."

During the debate, Biden also referred to Trump as a "clown" and was clearly exasperated with trying to compete to have his voice heard during his time to speak.

Trump continually interrupted Biden throughout the debate, so it is no surprise that the "shut up" line became a hit with Biden supporters, quickly becoming a meme and even apparel.

Tom Watson said: "Honestly, 'Will you shut up, man?' is going down in presidential debate history along with Nixon's beard. Iconic."

Biden supporters and critics of Trump took to Twitter to say how relatable the line was. Many viewers were frustrated with Trump's interruptions and Wallace has been criticized for failing to keep control of the debate.

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci said: "'Will you shut up, man?' couldn't have been said any better."

The Biden team did not disappoint, and within hours they had embraced the meme and a "will you shut up, man?" T-shirt was for sale on the official website.

While some Twitter users are disappointed that the T-shirt features Trump's image, there are many independent artists coming up with their own spins on Biden's "Will you shut up, man?" quote.

Though the line came early on in the first presidential debate, its relatability has sparked a meme that Biden supporters are sure to continue to use for the rest of the election.
