Former WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn Returns for Mae Young Classic

The first confirmed participant of WWE’s second Mae Young Classic tournament is former Divas Champion, Kaitlyn.

First reported by ESPN, Kaitlyn -- real name Celeste Bonin --  will return to a WWE ring for the first time in four years as she competes in the 32-woman tournament this August. Bonin, 31, retired from WWE in January 2014 after a lengthy reign as Divas Champion.

An accomplished amateur bodybuilder, Bonin began her WWE career began in 2010 after winning the third season of NXT, a competition series of wrestling rookies that aired before the current incarnation of the promotion.

"The thing that got me through [as a rookie in WWE] and the thing that allowed me to achieve my level of success was my attitude, and looking back now, I am coming back with experience," Bonin told ESPN. "I am certainly nervous because the level of competition is so much higher and there are so many different women from around the world and they bring skill levels. But it's just so exciting."

After becoming the winner of the aforementioned third season of NXT, Bonin would climb to the top of the Divas Division in January 2013 after defeating Eve on the 20th Anniversary of Monday Night RAW to capture her first and only Divas Championship.

Bonin would hold onto the championship for 153 days before dropping it to AJ Lee.

Following her retirement in 2014, Bonin began focusing on her fitness clothing line, Celestial Bodiez and wouldn’t enter another ring until February 2018 for Coastal Championship Wrestling where she defeated Rachael Ellering in a singles match.

The second Mae Young Classic will start taping on Aug. 8 and 9 before premiering on the WWE Network sometime in September. Tickets for the second Mae Young Classic will go on sale Friday, June 22 starting at 10 a.m. EDT at the NXT Tickets website.
