When Is 'Donda' Coming Out? Kanye West Fans Go Into Meltdown Over Release Date Delay

Fans of Kanye West have taken to Twitter en masse to express their frustration at his much-delayed album, Donda, still not being released.

The musician hosted a second listening livestream event at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the album on Thursday, with the expectation that the highly anticipated project would be released hours later on Friday.

However, the 24-track project remains on pre-release on Apple Music, with no indication of when Donda will see the light of day.

And the delay has irked fans, particularly as the album was initially scheduled to be released on July 24, 2020, before it hit a series of delays—most recently missing its date the day after his July 22 listening event in Atlanta.

As devotees opted to forgo sleep in favor of being among the first to grab themselves a copy of Donda—only to learn their efforts were in vain—the inevitable complaints, jokes and memes started rolling in thick and fast.

Referencing West's dramatic end to his most recent event, which saw him lifted hundreds of feet into the air over the stadium, one Twitter user wrote: "They forgot to cut Kanye down, that's why he hasn't dropped the album yet."

Staying on the same subject, @kingPOFFI said: "I can't lie, Kanye ascending into the heavens at the end of the stream and the album not releasing is crazy. Is he coming back to drop it???"

West's stadium ascension was brought up once again, when @CraigySlane joked: "Kanye really got himself raptured just to avoid releasing an album on time."

"This whole process is flawed like hell," stated @wlliethomas. "Kanye seem's to be more Interested in the big Event's than he is with the Album."

Rescinding support for West altogether, @ryder4kt declared: "That's it. That seals the deal. I'm no longer a Kanye fan. This 'rapper' is a pure and utter embarrassment to the music industry for doing everything but releasing his album. I won't listen ever again. I'm taking my support to Nas, who releases his albums."

Another Twitter user, @snuurid, suggested: "donda dont even exist it's a social experiment," while others tweeted furious reaction videos.

User @MemphisThePie observed the plethora of strong reactions to the album's delay, writing: "Do you realise how powerful an artist you have to be to constantly deliberately lie to your audience about your album release date and still maintain that level of excitement. This is Kanye's world."

Despite all of the frustration expressed by West fans, this is nothing new. As they await the release of his 10th studio album, it's worth noting that a number of his previous musical outings were also delayed.

Donda, which features appearances from a host of rappers, is named for West's mother, Donda West, who passed away in 2007 from plastic surgery complications.
