LeVar Burton Addresses 'Star Trek: Picard' Season 2 Geordi La Forge Speculation

LeVar Burton has not ruled out a Geordi La Forge appearance in Star Trek: Picard season two.

The Reading Rainbow host's former Star Trek: The Next Generation co-star, Patrick Stewart, has reignited the love for Next Gen all over again with his spin-off series Picard.

And if Burton does not think his character Geordi will be getting his own show anytime soon, he has not entirely ruled out an appearance in Picard.

"I'm really happy with where Geordi sits in my life," the Jeopardy! hopeful told Newsweek. "And even though I feel like it would be it would be fun to revisit him now and again, living in his skin every day, I don't necessarily need to go back to doing that."

He added: "I'm sure that it was a big concern of Patrick's and important for him that the stories that they told had an energetic departure from Next Gen.

"I think they've successfully done that. And I know that for the first season, there was a strong desire to not continually have people reference back to Next Gen."

Having said that, Burton cited the success of Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis' appearances as William Riker and Deanna Troi respectively, in season one.

"I think that they're well aware of how successful having Jonathan and Marina in season one was."

When asked if there could possibly be a Geordi La Forge appearance in season two, Burton said "maybe."

"I mean I think the time period of Picard is contemporaneous," he said.

Burton previously teased a Picard appearance to ET Online last year, telling the publication: "How do I answer this without getting myself in trouble? I think it is reasonable to think that those people are still a part of Picard's life. Sure, what the hell, absolutely. You will see us all, probably not all at the same time but... You know, never say never."

The character makes an appearance in the prequel comic, "Star Trek: Picard - Countdown."

Season two of the prequel series is currently in production and expected to premiere in 2022.

Next Generation fans will always remember Burton as the human Starfleet officer under Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Stewart) recognizable for the ocular visor that allowed him to see despite being born blind.

Burton told Newsweek that in his career, Geordi was one of the roles he knew was made for him.

"It is not often when I get this, this laser locked on a role or a job, it's only happened a couple of other times in my career," he said.

"It happened with Roots, [and the character] Kunta Kinte. As soon as I read, the very first scene I knew, I knew who this character was."

He added: "Next Gen. Reading Geordi I remember thinking 'I got this—this I can do.'

"Both of those jobs I wanted desperately because I knew myself to be right for them."
