Jurgen Klopp faces a trip back to his old club after the UEFA Europa League quarter-final draw paired his Liverpool team with Borussia Dortmund.

Klopp is revered in Dortmund, having led the club to two Bundesliga titles and the 2013 UEFA Champions League final at Wembley.

He said before the draw was made that he would not have wanted to face his former team until the final, which takes place at St.Jakob-Park in Basel, Switzerland, on May 18.

Klopp left Dortmund in the summer of 2015 following seven years at the club, taking over from Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool in October of that year.

The two ties will be played on April 7 and 14, with the first leg at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.

Liverpool progressed to this stage of the competition with a 3-1 aggregate victory over Manchester United, the first time the two great English football rivals had met in European competition.

In the UEFA Champions League, Manchester City faces an onerous task to make the semi-finals after the club was drawn with Paris Saint-Germain, the Qatari-owned conqueror of Chelsea, in the quarter-finals.
