'Making the Cut' Season 2 Final: What the Winner Actually Wins

Making the Cut is coming to an end after five weeks of high fashion, high stakes and high pressure.

When the final airs on Friday, August 6, on Amazon Prime Video, either Andrea Pitter, Andrea Salazar or Gary Graham will be named the winner of Season 2. In Episode 7, they are tasked with creating a concept store before Episode 8 sees whoever makes it through that round present a collection to judges Heidi Klum, Winnie Harlow and Jeremy Scott.

Whichever of the three triumphs in the finale of the Amazon show, they will win what is probably the biggest prize package ever awarded to the winner of a fashion competition.

The winner will be following in the footsteps of the first winner Jonny Cota, who has given interviews where he reveals what winning the show's prize package has done for his brand.

What does the winner of Making the Cut win?

As detailed by judge Heidi Klum herself on the show, contestants win the following:

  • $1 million to build their fashion brand
  • A fashion mentorship
  • The chance to sell a collection on Amazon's Making the Cut store
  • The chance to sell a second collection in collaboration with Amazon Fashion
  • A free three-year lease at fashion retailer Row DTLA in Los Angeles
  • What Heidi terms "career and life changing opportunities"

These elements were revealed as the show went on. The Row DTLA lease, for example, was revealed in the seventh episode of the show after the final three launched their concept stores there.

Row DTLA is also home to a story owned by Making the Cut Season 1 winner Jonny Cota. In a Popsugar interview, he said one of the difficult things about winning is not being to tell anyone between when you film and when the episode airs.

He said: "For the next six months, I couldn't tell a single soul that I won. I'm at the bagel shop the next morning, and I'm thinking, my life has changed! I just wanted to announce it to everyone in the coffee shop."

Asked by the LA Times about what he did with the $1 million he won, he said, "All of 2020 is being funded by the $1 million prize I won on Making the Cut ... launching the [new] brand [Jonny Cota], continuing with Skingraft, the mentorship with Amazon. ... This year is fully funded and we are full steam ahead."

He also told the outlet that the show had positive effects on his business that were not part of the prize package. "During the show, our sales jumped about 500 percent," he said.

Speaking about what he gained from the mentorship with Amazon Fashion, he said, "What I've experienced so far—and what I hope to continue to gain from the Amazon Fashion mentorship—is how to speak directly to my customers, how to bring my niche brand, my niche aesthetic, into a global market."
