Man, 72, Loses Thumb in Alleged Dog Attack
A 72-year-old man had his thumb bitten off in an alleged dog attack after it broke free from its owner, according to a report.
The Daily Record reported on Thursday that the man was rushed to the hospital after the dog allegedly attacked him in Blackburn, a town in Scotland, on Friday July 16.
The outlet said he had been walking his own pet when he saw two large American Bulldogs close by that had broken free from their owner.
When the man noticed one of the dogs was coming towards him, he lifted his dog Domino into his arms, before they leaped onto him.
In the attack, the man had his thumbs bitten off and suffered injuries to his face, neck, body and hands, according to The Daily Record.
Following the attack, the man was rushed to St John's Hospital in nearby Livingston where he was treated for his injuries.
According to the outlet, the man's son, David Jones, managed to recover his dad's severed thumb, but it was unable to be successfully reattached.
The 72-year-old was discharged from the hospital on Sunday night, but David said the experience had left his dad "traumatized."
He told The Courier: "Dad is pretty traumatized, he's in a lot of pain."
Jones continued: "He's had stitches to his face where the dog bit him and he's lost his thumb and has other bites on his arms and his hands and legs."
The Daily Record reported the dog had been seized and that an investigation into the attack had since been launched.
A Police Scotland spokesperson told Newsweek: "A 40-year-old woman is subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal following a dog-on-dog attack near Happy Valley Road in Blackburn around 11 a.m. on Friday, July 16.
"A dog has been seized in relation to the incident and we are continuing to engage with partners."
